A new wine festival celebrating the Dão region is set to make its debut in Viseu this weekend, bringing together more than 200 wines, local producers, food experiences and live entertainment.
The first edition of Dão Summer Edition takes place on Saturday and Sunday (June 27-28) at the Solar do Vinho do Dão in Viseu, offering visitors the chance to sample wines from across the Dão and Lafões regions while enjoying a programme that extends well beyond traditional tastings.
Around 20 wine producers will be represented at the event, including well-known names such as Adega de Mangualde, Adega de Penalva, Adega de Silgueiros, António Madeira, Cabriz/Casa de Santar, Caminhos Cruzados, Casa da Passarella, Pedra Cancela and Quinta da Giesta 1884.
Organisers say the festival is designed to appeal to both wine enthusiasts and families, with food stalls, live music and a dedicated children’s area running throughout the weekend.
One of the highlights will be “Women of Dão”, a special session taking place on Saturday afternoon at 3pm that will showcase the work of female winemakers and producers from the region.
Visitors will also be able to attend a series of free “Lab Talks” covering topics including viticulture, biodiversity, wine and gastronomy, and wine labelling. Attendance will be limited and places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Advance tickets cost €5 online until June 26 and rise to €8 during the event. Admission includes an official tasting glass and four tokens that can be used for wine tastings.
The festival opens from 2.30pm to 11pm on Saturday and from 2.30pm to 7pm on Sunday.
The full programme can be found on the event’s website.
