MUMBAI: The ruling Mahayuti alliance scored a resounding victory in the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections, securing 16 of the 17 seats whose results were declared on Monday.Polling for the 17 constituencies was held on June 18, though six Mahayuti candidates had already been elected unopposed, giving the alliance a significant head start. The only constituency that did not elect an official Mahayuti nominee was Nashik, where Independent candidate and BJP rebel Gokul Gite defeated Shiv Sena's Narendra Darade. The outcome is being viewed as a major embarrassment for the Shiv Sena, which had fielded Darade as the alliance's candidate.
