Jakarta prepares as global city push ahead of the 500th anniversary

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is targeting Jakarta to become a more attractive global city ahead of its 500th anniversary in 2027.

In achieving the target, Jakarta provincial government plans to hold various activities to further encourage Jakarta's transformation into a favored global city.

"Of course, we will organise various activities to make Jakarta increasingly become a global city, a favored city, and a city that is comfortable and safe," Anung said in Jakarta on Monday.

He outlined several measures to welcome Jakarta's five century milestone, including launching the development of a pedestrian deck in Dukuh Atas and renovating Semanggi Park.

Governor Anung expressed hope the revitalisation work would be completed soon.

In addition, he said, the provincial government would connect the Hotel Indonesia Square area underground with several hotels, namely Grand Hyatt, Pullman, Mandarin, and Kempinski. The hotels will later be connected directly to the nearby MRT station.

"We will continue to carry out such measures. However, the most important thing is that, ahead of its five century milestone, Jakarta is preparing itself to provide comfort for its residents," he said.​​​​​​​

Anung emphasised that together with Rano Karno, the deputy governor, he is not only focusing on the city's physical development, but also on improving comfort, safety, care, and mutual cooperation through the continuous implementation of the Jaga Jakarta movement and waste sorting efforts.
