CEBU CITY, Philippines — Three separate stabbing incidents in Cebu on June 20 and 22 left three men wounded and led to the arrest of three suspects.
Police are linking the attacks to a confrontation during a family gathering, an argument between friends, and an apparently unprovoked assault.
Medellin stabbing
The latest incident occurred shortly after midnight on Monday, June 22, in Purok Boongon, Barangay Antipolo, Medellin, Cebu.
Police said Rene Dayap Arreglado, 53, a laborer from Barangay Daanlungsod, Medellin, was attending his grandchild’s birthday celebration at his parents’ house when Vicente Talingting Rondina, 61, a tricycle driver and neighbor, joined the gathering after being invited to drink liquor.

Investigators said Arreglado later had a misunderstanding with his live-in partner during the celebration, which eventually led to a confrontation between the victim and Rondina.
The altercation turned physical and ended with Arreglado sustaining a stab wound on the left side of his abdomen.
Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victim to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City for treatment.
Responding officers later located Rondina near the crime scene and arrested him. Police are preparing a complaint for frustrated homicide against the suspect.
Stabbing in computer shop
Earlier, on Saturday, June 20, an 18-year-old student was arrested after allegedly stabbing his 26-year-old friend in Sitio Balagtas, Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City.
Police said the two men, who were friends, had been inside a computer shop when the victim allegedly asked the suspect to stop playing and introduce him to one of his female friends.
The disagreement escalated into a fistfight.

Minutes later, police said the suspect allegedly drew a tactical folding knife and stabbed the victim multiple times.
The 26-year-old victim sustained four stab wounds on different parts of his body and was rushed by his uncle to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.
The suspect was later turned over to Carbon Police Station of the Cebu City Police Office with the assistance of the victim’s mother, who sought police help after learning about the incident.
Authorities are preparing attempted homicide charges against the 18-year-old.
Liloan tricycle driver survives
Also on June 20, a 50-year-old tricycle driver survived after he was stabbed while riding his motorcycle in Sitio Tabok Lamac, Barangay Yati, Liloan, Cebu.
Police identified the victim as Roman Santiago Joguilon, who suffered a stab wound on the upper right portion of his chest.
Investigators said suspect Jose Gapo Partolan, 47, an unemployed ex-convict and resident of the same area, suddenly attacked Joguilon without apparent reason.
Despite his injury, Joguilon managed to flee and seek help from nearby residents before being brought to Mendero Medical Center for treatment.
Responding police officers later arrested Partolan and recovered an improvised knife measuring around 13 inches, along with its improvised wooden sheath.
Appropriate charges are being prepared against the suspect.
As of Monday, all suspects remain in the custody of the respective police stations that arrested them.
