Developer Joseph Portelli has filed plans for a new residential block in Xemxija that would include 30 apartments and six rooftop swimming pools.
The application, submitted to the Planning Authority in April, proposes private garages, an office, three ground-floor maisonettes, 30 apartments and six penthouses, each with its own pool.
The project is planned for the same road where a separate Portelli-linked development is already under construction.
That nearby project made headlines earlier this year after part of the road adjacent to the site collapsed just weeks after a stop-work order had been issued on demolition works.
According to Times of Malta, a spokesperson for Portelli said the collapse was caused by water entering natural fissures in the rock.
The latest application is still awaiting a recommendation from the Planning Authority.
Meanwhile, Enemalta has objected to the proposal, arguing that a planned substation does not meet the requirements needed to provide electricity to the development.
The project is the latest in a growing list of major developments proposed for the Xemxija area, with several large residential and mixed-use projects currently planned or under construction.
Do you think the area can handle more development?
