A young man who sparked widespread
outrage by posting a video on social media of himself laughing
after a fatal car crash in which he was involved released
another jokey video on Monday as he embarked on a flight,
apparently intent on leaving Italy.
The man was a passenger in a Fiat 500 that hit a scooter in the
Ligurian town of Ceriale, killing 23-year-old Sofia Barberi and
seriously injuring another woman, who, among other things, has
had a foot amputated.
Soon after the accident, the man posted a profanity-ridden video
of himself laughing as he commented on the aftermath and said:
"I swear, this one here is dead".
He subsequently issued an apology, saying he did not realize the
gravity of what had happened, and his parents had to call the
police to intervene after an angry crowd formed outside his home
at the weekend.
But in a new reel posted at Milan's Malpensa airport on Monday,
there was little sign of remorse.
"I think my plan to live a happy life in Italy has failed. All
of Italy hates us, remigration," he quipped, referring to the
flagship policy of former Italian general Roberto Vannacci's new
far-right National Future (FN) party.
"This accident has ruined my life.
"Luckily I take everything with a laugh".
The woman who was driving the Fiat 500 and who had only recently
passed her driving test has had her licence withdrawn and has
been reported to prosecutors for alleged vehicular homicide and
aggravated bodily harm.
