MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday suspended several drivers who were caught on camera doing illegal activities on the road, such as counterflow driving, road rage and illegal racing.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao issued show cause orders (SCO) summoning the registered owner and driver of a Toyota Fortuner and a Toyota Innova that were recorded and went viral on social media for driving on the wrong side of the road in Cavite.
In the video, the Toyota Fortuner was seen using unauthorized blinking signal lights while driving counterflow, with the Innova right behind it.
In its initial investigation, the LTO found that the Toyota Innova is owned by a local government unit.

In the SCO, the drivers and owners of the vehicles are facing administrative violations including “Operating a Motor Vehicle with Unauthorized Parts/Accessories, Driving Against Traffic, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.”
On the other hand, the LTO also issued an SCO to a driver of a Nissan Navara pickup truck who went viral for performing dangerous maneuvers that endangered other motorists.
In the video, the vehicle is seen swerving, brake-checking or sudden-braking, stopping in the middle of the road and performing a rude gesture at another motorist.
In a separate statement, Lacanilao said both the registered owner and driver of the pickup truck are facing administrative violations such as “Reckless Driving, Obstruction of Traffic, and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.”
“Hindi natin kukunsintihin ang anumang uri ng iresponsableng pagmamaneho na naglalagay sa panganib sa buhay at kaligtasan ng publiko. Ang kalsada ay hindi lugar para sa init ng ulo, agresibong pagmamaneho, at mga kilos na maaaring magdulot ng aksidente (We will not tolerate any kind of irresponsible driving that endangers the public. A road is not the place for anger, aggressive driving, or any action that can cause accidents),” he said.

Meanwhile, the LTO also summoned the registered owner and driver of another Toyota Fortuner that went viral on social media for racing on public roads.
They are facing administrative charges of “Reckless Driving and Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.”
All said drivers and vehicle owners have been temporarily suspended while the investigation is ongoing, and their vehicles placed on alarm to prevent any transactions with the LTO.
They were also summoned to appear before the LTO and submit a written and notarized explanation on why they should not be penalized for the violations written in their SCOs. (PNA)
