Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba has announced that he will once again contest the role of Deputy Leader for Party Affairs within the Labour Party.
In a statement, Agius Saliba said he would be putting his name forward for confirmation by party delegates, describing the decision as one he was taking with “a sense of pride”.
Reflecting on the past two years in the role, he thanked party activists, delegates and local committees, saying they form the backbone of the Labour Party and that he had worked to support them throughout his tenure.
Agius Saliba pointed to several initiatives aimed at strengthening the party, describing them as part of a collective effort that helped deliver Labour’s fourth consecutive general election victory just weeks ago.
While acknowledging the work carried out so far, he said there was still more to be done and pledged to continue dedicating his energy to the role if re-elected.
He said he looked forward to continuing to work alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg and Prime Minister and Labour leader Robert Abela.
“Together we can continue writing history,” Agius Saliba said as he formally launched his bid for another term.
