Premier Giorgia Meloni is ready to
testify in court in a libel case against former paparazzo to the
stars Fabrizio Corona over an October 23 article that appeared
on his online news service Dillingernews.it alleging a romantic
relationship between the prime minister, who is separated, and a
former member of her right-wing Bothers of Italy (FdI) party,
Manlio Messina, her lawyer said Monday.
Meloni announced her separation from her long-time partner,
television journalist Andrea Giambruno, in October 2023.
She made the public decision on social media after Italian
satirical television shows broadcast explicit, off-air
recordings of Giambruno making lewd comments and propositions to
female colleagues.
The couple, who were not legally married but had been together
for nearly a decade, share a 10-year-old daughter, Ginevra.
Meloni announced the end of their relationship by stating that
their paths had "diverged for some time" and thanked him for the
years they spent together.
Giambruno subsequently suspended his hosting duties on the talk
show Diario del Giorno.
Corona, who has been in and out of jail for defamation and
corruption in recent years, alleged that Meloni hooked up with
Messina shortly after her break from Giambruno.
