The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 100-level student of a higher institution in Delta State, reportedly by his elder brother, following a disagreement.
The incident, which occurred on June 17, 2026, involved two brothers, Fejiro and Joseph, aged 21 and 19, respectively, who were both students of the same institution and shared accommodation arranged by their parents.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the incident in a video statement on Monday, describing it as “a very disturbing report” that underscored the need for proper child upbringing and moral guidance.
According to him, the disagreement between the brothers escalated into a physical confrontation inside their residence before neighbours intervened and separated them. However, the situation resumed shortly afterwards.
“Brothers can turn against brothers. Children can turn against their parents if they are not properly brought up. And that is what actually played out on the 17th of June, 2026,” Edafe said.
He said the altercation, which was rumoured to have started over bedroom slippers, later turned violent after both brothers moved to the back of the house and continued fighting despite initial intervention.
The police spokesperson alleged that the elder brother, Fejiro, subsequently stabbed his younger brother multiple times with a kitchen knife before fleeing the scene.
“Now, the elder brother named Fejiro, who is about three years older than the younger brother, took a kitchen knife and stabbed his younger brother multiple times and ran away,” he said.

Edafe added that the suspect had since gone into hiding, noting that efforts were ongoing to apprehend him.
“Till now, he is at large. Till now, we are still looking for him,” he stated.
He suggested that the nature of the attack raised concerns about possible drug influence or cult-related behaviour, although investigations were still ongoing.
“It is either abuse of drugs or cultism. It is either of the two,” he said.
The police spokesman said the command would ensure the suspect is arrested and made to account for his actions, adding that the case would be properly investigated once he is apprehended.
He also used the incident to call for stronger moral upbringing among young people, stressing that family values remain critical to preventing similar tragedies.
“Teach them right and good moral values. Teach them to love one another. It is very, very important for them to love themselves,” he said.
