The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced a statewide crackdown on unregistered vehicles and motorists using concealed or fictitious number plates, deploying mobile courts to ensure the swift prosecution of offenders.
The command said the exercise was in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Rilwan Disu, and aimed at strengthening road safety and national security across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, who noted that the operation targets vehicles operating without proper registration, as well as those using covered, obscured, unauthorised or fake number plates.
According to the statement, the command, in collaboration with the state judiciary, has established mobile courts in the five Area Command headquarters and other strategic locations within the Bauchi metropolis.

The statement further quoted the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, as saying that unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles pose significant security threats.
“He noted that such vehicles are often used to perpetrate violent crimes like kidnapping, armed robbery, etc. He further emphasized that the enforcement is not aimed at harassing motorists, but at protecting lives and property,” the statement stressed.
The police warned that any vehicle found violating the regulations would be impounded, while offenders would face immediate prosecution before the mobile courts.
Aliyu explained that penalties would include fines and other sanctions as provided under the Motor Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Laws and the Nigeria Police Regulations.
The command urged vehicle owners and drivers to regularise their vehicle documents, ensure proper display of number plates and refrain from covering, defacing or altering registration plates.
It also appealed to residents to cooperate with officers carrying out the enforcement exercise, stressing that the operation would be sustained without compromise.
