
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Ubay, Bohol Mayor Violeta Diangco-Reyes passed away on Monday at the age of 58, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes from local officials, colleagues, and residents of the town she served.
The municipal government of Ubay announced her death in an official statement, describing her passing as a profound loss to the municipality and the people she dedicated her life to serving.
The cause of death was not disclosed by the family.

Reyes is the wife of Ubay Vice Mayor Constantino Reyes.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Municipal Mayor, Hon. Violeta D. Reyes,” the municipal government said.
The local government paid tribute to Reyes’ years of public service, highlighting her commitment, compassion, and unwavering concern for the welfare of Ubayanons.
“Through her visionary leadership, integrity, and steadfast dedication, she touched countless lives and contributed immensely to the growth and development of our municipality,” the statement read.
The municipality said her passing was a significant loss not only to her family and loved ones but also to the entire community she served with “humility, strength, and devotion.”

“As we mourn this painful loss, we remember and honor her remarkable legacy of service, leadership, and love for the people,” it added.
Reyes had served Ubay in various capacities before becoming mayor. She was elected as a municipal councilor and later served as mayor after winning the mayoralty race in the May 2025 elections.

Following the announcement of her death, messages of condolence poured in from public officials across Bohol.
Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado remembered Reyes not only as a fellow public servant but also as a dear friend.
“Mayor Violy was not only a good colleague in public service but also a true friend with a big heart for serving the people,” Aumentado said.
2nd District Rep. Vanessa Aumentado also extended her sympathies to the Reyes family and recalled the mayor’s friendship and support through the years.

“Thank you, Mayor Ate Violy, for your friendship, kindness, and unwavering support through the years. Beyond your role as a leader, you have been a true friend whose presence brought comfort, strength, and joy to so many lives, including mine,” the lawmaker said.
