The Edo State Security Squad has arrested 14 suspects in connection with a recent cult-related killing at a motor park in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
It would be recalled that gunmen suspected to be cultists on June 16, 2026, reportedly killed a motor park worker identified simply as Jogodo at Jattu Junction in Auchi.
The state government, after the incident, demolished the motor park as part of efforts aimed at addressing cultism in the state.
The spokesperson for the squad, Eribo Ewanta, said the suspects were arrested at Tripple J & J Hotel Aviele.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence reports indicating that the attack was planned at the hotel and that the suspects moved from the facility to carry out the act.
He said that following the arrest, the hotel was sealed off, after which operatives proceeded to Igbira Camp to apprehend the alleged prime suspect, Anefi Kassim. However, Kassim had already fled the area before their arrival.
Ewanta said investigations revealed that Kassim is a member of the Juris Confraternity.
He said the arrested suspects are helping security agencies with useful information that will help in the arrest of others at large, including the mastermind of the killing.
