Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said that the Strait of Hormuz will be administered by Tehran, state media reported on Tuesday (June 23, 2026), following talks pushing to end the U.S.-Israeli war on the Islamic republic.
Iran and the United States agreed on Monday (June 22, 2026) to set up communication lines to keep the vital shipping route open and end fighting in Lebanon, mediators said, after their first round of talks in Switzerland toward ending the conflict that has engulfed the West Asia war.

Vice-President J.D. Vance on Monday (June 22, 2026) said his lengthy talks with senior Iranian officials in Switzerland created a “good foundation for a successful final deal” as they seek a permanent end to the war that the U.S. and Israel began in late February.
The interim deal to end the fighting in Iran, signed last week by the leaders of the U.S. and Iran, sets a 60-day period for negotiations on key issues, including the future of Tehran’s nuclear program amid concerns that Iran wants to use it for military purposes, a claim the country denies.

‘Will do what I have to do’ if Iran does not stick to deal: Trump
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday (June 22, 2026) “I will do what I have to do” if Iran does not stick to its agreement with Washington.
“If Iran doesn’t live up to their agreement, or if they’re not behaving, I will do what I have to do,” Mr. Trump told reporters. Mr. Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed an interim U.S.-Iran deal last week, more than three months after the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran and Iran responded with its own attacks on Israel and Gulf states with U.S. bases.
