The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has disowned claims of appointments allegedly made by Bin Usman Rano, who had presented himself as her media aide and announced seven advisers under his office.
In a statement issued on Monday by her recognized Special Assistant on Media, Austine Elemue, and posted on her verified Facebook page, the Minister described the reports as “false representation of appointments and misuse of the office of the Honourable Minister of State, FCT.”
Elemue clarified that he remains the only duly appointed media aide authorized to issue statements on behalf of Dr. Mahmoud.
He stressed that Rano is not attached to the Minister’s office but is instead linked to the Dr. Mariya Support Group, a political movement mobilizing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Any appointments, designations, announcements, or authorizations issued by Mr. Bin Usman Rano are strictly related to the affairs of the support group and have no connection whatsoever with the Office of the Honourable Minister of State, FCT, or the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA),” the statement read.
Rano had over the weekend announced the appointment of seven aides, including advisers on media, protocol, student matters, youth and sports, religious affairs, and special duties.
The Minister’s office has now urged members of the public, media organizations, and government agencies to disregard such claims, insisting that official communication will only come through authorised channels.
The statement reaffirmed the minister’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and proper communication.
