Renowned historian, broadcaster and History Hit founder Dan Snow is currently in Malta, and he’s wasting no time diving into the island’s fascinating past.
Sharing updates from what he described as “the Malta adventure”, Snow kicked off his visit at Fort St Angelo, one of Malta’s most iconic historic landmarks.
In an Instagram post, the popular TV presenter highlighted the fort’s remarkable role throughout history, explaining how it served as the headquarters of the Knights of St John before later becoming a key base for the British Royal Navy in the Mediterranean.
Describing the site as a “military nerve centre”, Snow pointed to its incredible resilience through some of history’s most significant conflicts.
“It withstood the mighty Ottoman war machine. It withstood the Axis in WW2. It’s a place where history has happened,” he wrote.
Fort St Angelo played a crucial role during the Great Siege of 1565 and later became an important strategic location during World War II, making it one of Malta’s most historically significant sites.
Snow also shared several snapshots from around the island, hinting that more historical discoveries and Maltese adventures could be on the way over the coming days.
Given his passion for bringing history to life for millions of followers worldwide, many will be hoping Malta features heavily in his upcoming content.
And with thousands of years of history packed into a small Mediterranean island, he’s certainly got plenty to explore.
