Man stabs to death his mother in Cotabato town

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato—A man believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs killed his mother following a heated argument inside their home in the town of Kabacan, Cotabato province, early on Monday, police said.

Police Col. Ramel Hojilla, Cotabato police director, identified the victim as Floresma Mesmis Mamari, 59, a widower, of Purok Mabuhay, Barangay Kilagasan, Kabacan.

The suspect was identified as Jay, 36, who was arrested after a hot pursuit operation by the members of the Kabacan municipal police.

Hojilla said the victim’s relatives, who live nearby, heard the heated argument and rushed to their residence to pacify both, but they found his mother sprawled on the floor with multiple stab wounds on her face, neck, and shoulders.

Responding police personnel recovered from the crime scene two knives, an ice pick, a bolo, and several drug-use paraphernalia.

The suspect is now detained at the custodial facility of the Kabacan police station./coa
