CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Bishnu Paudel, who was arrested in Surkhet, has been brought to Kathmandu.
Police took him to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation a short while ago. Paudel, who is also a former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, was arrested by police on Monday.
Authorities are preparing to present him in court today to seek an extension of his detention for further investigation.
A high-ranking source associated with the department told Onlinekhabar that Paudel was arrested as part of an investigation into his share transactions and the suspected sources of his assets.
Paudel had travelled to Surkhet yesterday to attend a party program, during which he was arrested. Police transported him to Kathmandu by road overnight.
Before taking him into custody, a team from the department also conducted a raid at his residence.
