Police officer dies in crash during chase near Milan

39-year-old man have been run off road by car he was in pursuit of

A 39-year-old local police officer,

Francesco Imprezzabile, is dead after a crash on his motorbike

while he was chasing a car that failed to stop at a checkpoint

in the town of Peschiera Borromeo, near Milan, late on Monday.

Imprezzabile died of his injuries in Milan's Niguarda hospital

after being rushed there by air ambulance following the crash.

Investigators are trying to track down the driver of the SUV

vehicle Imprezzabile was in pursuit of.

They are also trying to establish whether the crash was an

accident or was deliberately caused by the SUV running

Imprezzabile off the road.
