Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized that no region in Indonesia should be left behind due to limited road access.
"No region should be left behind simply because of limited access. We must reduce logistics costs for all our people and for our economy," he said at the inauguration of the implementation of the 2025 Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads across Indonesia in Sampang District, East Java, on Tuesday.
According to the President, road construction is a crucial part of efforts to support equitable development and economic growth across Indonesia.
He noted that adequate roads would improve connectivity between production centers and residential areas, thereby reducing transportation costs. Better connectivity would also make goods distribution and public mobility more efficient.
"Indonesia is a very large country with a vast territory and diverse geographical conditions. Transportation costs will be cheaper if supported by adequate roads and connectivity between production centers and residential areas," he remarked.
Prabowo also stressed that lowering logistics costs is a key objective of regional road development to support the national economy, adding that quality road infrastructure is part of the country's resilience strategy.
"Well-developed roads are part of our resilience strategy. Achieving food self-sufficiency is not only about agricultural inputs, and energy self-sufficiency is not merely about energy supply. Both also depend on effective distribution systems so that energy to reach people in productive areas," he pointed out.
The President symbolically inaugurated the construction of 1,151 kilometers of regional roads across 37 provinces from Sampang District, East Java, as a manifestation of equitable national development.
During the same occasion, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said the road construction and improvement program aims to streamline supply chains from production areas to consumer markets and strengthen the connectivity of regional roads with the national road network and public service centers.
The construction and improvement of 1,151 kilometers of roads in 37 provinces was supported by a state budget of Rp5.41 trillion (around US$295 million). All work has been fully completed and the roads are ready for public use.
"We strictly monitored the quality of all the work, which was carried out in a planned, measured, and accountable manner," Hanggodo said.
He pointed out that road infrastructure development is no longer concentrated on certain areas, but has expanded across various regions in Indonesia to support economic growth and national connectivity.
