CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — In the wake of the recent school shooting in Tacloban City, the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO-10) has ordered heightened security measures and increased police visibility across schools in Northern Mindanao to ensure students’ safety.
Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano, PRO-10 director, said the regional police force is strengthening its coordination with school authorities and strictly implementing preventive security protocols under the “Oplan Balik-Eskwela” program.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Abrahano also issued a stern reminder to police personnel to strictly adhere to firearm safekeeping policies as part of their overarching goal to keep campuses and communities safe.
“The safety of our students is PRO-10’s priority. That is why we are intensifying police visibility in schools, strengthening coordination with school authorities, and continuously implementing preventive security measures,” Abrahano said.
However, the police official emphasized that securing the youth requires a whole-of-community approach.
“Ensuring the safety of our youth is not just the responsibility of the police. It is a collective responsibility of parents, schools, local government units, the community, and other stakeholders,” he said.
“Through unity, vigilance, and the cooperation of everyone, we can further strengthen our steps to maintain a safe and orderly environment for our students,” Abrahano added./coa
