Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) has approved the government's proposal to include a bill on the Indonesian International Financial Center (PFII) in the 2026 National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).
The approval was granted during a meeting between the DPR's Legislation Body (Baleg), Deputy Law Minister Eddy Hiariej, and Deputy State Secretary Bambang Eko Suhariyanto at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
"We agree to approve the government's proposal on the bill concerning the Indonesian International Financial Center for deliberation in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations," Baleg Chair Bob Hasan said.
Bob said the requirement of "certain circumstances" stipulated in Law No. 15 of 2019 on Lawmaking had been fulfilled, allowing the bill, which was previously not included in the Prolegnas, to be deliberated.
Article 23 paragraph (2) of the law stipulates that the DPR or the president may propose a bill outside the Prolegnas under certain circumstances.
According to Bob, such circumstances exist because legislation governing the PFII must be enacted within three months of the promulgation of Law No. 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector on June 17, 2026.
"We agreed that these circumstances justify the inclusion of a bill that was previously not part of the Prolegnas," he said.
Baleg also reminded the government to ensure meaningful public participation during the drafting and deliberation process.
Meanwhile, Deputy Law Minister Eddy Hiariej said sustainable economic growth and deeper economic diversification through an effective financial sector are necessary to improve public welfare.
To achieve this, he said, Indonesia needs an International Financial Center with special authority to help drive sustainable economic growth.
"[PFII] is a concentration of financial services, a center for financial technology development and supporting services, and a trusted financial hub managed based on the principles of efficiency, transparency, and integrity," Eddy said.
Therefore, the government proposed including the PFII bill in the 2026 Prolegnas review to provide a legal basis for developing an international financial center in Indonesia and to strengthen the competitiveness of the national economy and financial sector.
