
The Office of the Prime Minister of Portugal has issued a warning after fraudsters allegedly used the names of Luís Montenegro and his Chief of Staff in an attempt to deceive members of the public.
According to a government statement sent to newsrooms, several people have been contacted by email and WhatsApp messages claiming to be from the Prime Minister’s Office and requesting that recipients complete a confidentiality agreement.
“The Prime Minister’s Office warns of an attempted fraud targeting various individuals through email and messaging applications, invoking the names of the Prime Minister and the Chief of Staff and requesting the completion of a confidentiality agreement,” the statement said.
No details have been released regarding the number of people targeted or the ultimate objective of the alleged scam.
The Prime Minister’s Office said a formal complaint has already been submitted to the relevant authorities.
