As part of efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and strengthen food security, the Zamfara State Local Government Service Commission (ZLGSC) has trained 42 agricultural extension workers drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state.
The three-day capacity-building workshop was organised in collaboration with Gadabo Farms and General Enterprises Limited.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Gusau, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Aminu Aliyu Mafara, represented by Anas Iliyasu Birnin Sin, said the training was designed to equip extension personnel with modern agronomic knowledge and practical skills.
The workshop, themed “Strengthening Extension Capacity on Best Agronomic Practices for Increased Productivity, Food Security and Reduction of Post-Harvest Losses in Cereals and Legumes,” brought together directors and deputy directors of agriculture and natural resources across the state.

Mafara said participants would be trained on climate-smart agriculture, soil fertility management, pest and disease control, improved harvesting techniques, storage systems and post-harvest management.
He said the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to improving extension services and supporting farmers at the grassroots level.
According to him, strengthening the capacity of extension workers would enhance agricultural output, increase farmers’ incomes and reduce post-harvest losses.
He expressed optimism that the intervention would contribute significantly to achieving sustainable food production and food security in the state.
