UST star Rhiane Perez embraces pressure ahead of NBA invitationals

MANILA, Philippines—All eyes will be on UST-SHS star Rhiane Perez in the upcoming NBA Rising Stars Invitationals in Singapore.

Coming off a star-making run in the UAAP Season 88, Perez will enter the regional high school tournament with high expectations.

Yet, even under pressure, Perez is ready to represent not just her school but also the Philippines at the Singapore games.

“It will be up to me to handle the pressure that I’m feeling,” she said in Filipino. “I’ll be using that pressure to be better and I’ll do my best to improve.”

“Representing UST is my biggest motivation to show everyone who’s watching that I’m representing something bigger than my name.”

Perez won MVP honors in Season 88 and carried the Junior Growling Tigresses to the championship.

Her stellar showing didn’t end in the UAAP.

Following her high school triumph, Perez helped Gilas Pilipinas girls secure a ticket to the Fiba U18 Asia Cup after sweeping the Seaba qualifiers.

In that immaculate 4-0 run, Perez was crowned the tournament MVP.

Now, she turns her attention to the Rising Star Invitationals where UST-SHS competes with 11 other teams in the Asia Pacific.
