The Electoral Commission has opened nominations for casual elections in six local councils after several councillors vacated their seats upon being elected to Parliament.
The casual elections will be held in the local councils of Birkirkara, Marsaskala, Siġġiewi, Għargħur, Gżira and Mosta.
Prospective candidates can submit their nominations either in person at the Electoral Commission’s offices in Naxxar or online between 24th and 26th June.
Candidates submitting nominations in person must present their identity card. Those who are abroad or unable to attend due to illness may nominate through an authorised representative using a notarised power of attorney.
A €90 deposit is required with each nomination.
The vacancies arose after councillors from the six localities were elected as Members of Parliament during the recent general election, triggering the need for casual elections to fill the vacant seats.
