Both minors were taken into the custody of the police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in accordance with Republic Act No. 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, prompting renewed interest in the said law.
In response, Nartatez said the PNP is coordinating more closely with the Department of Education and has tasked all its regional and provincial offices to review their school safety protocols; implementation of child protection services; and availability of psychosocial support.
