The W Algarve is launching a new series of wine-focused dining experiences with the debut of its Sommelier’s Table at the hotel’s VINO restaurant on Friday, July 3.
The inaugural event, taking place at 7pm, will be held in partnership with renowned Douro wine producer Van Zellers and aims to showcase the relationship between gastronomy and winemaking through a specially curated tasting menu paired with selected wines.
Guests will be welcomed with a drink on arrival before enjoying a multi-course tasting menu, with each dish accompanied by a Van Zellers wine chosen to complement its flavours and textures.
Throughout the evening, a sommelier will guide diners through the pairings, offering insights into the wines’ origins, production methods and distinctive characteristics. The experience is designed to provide a deeper understanding of how food and wine interact, exploring the balance of aromas, textures and flavours that shape a successful pairing.
According to the organisers, the Sommelier’s Table concept aims to create a more immersive dining experience by bringing together carefully selected wines and bespoke menus created for each event.
The launch with Van Zellers marks the beginning of what is expected to become a regular series of wine dinners featuring leading producers from Portugal’s wine regions.
Founded in the 17th century, Van Zellers is one of the Douro Valley’s best-known wine families and is recognised for producing premium table wines and Port wines that reflect the character of the region.
The event will take place at VINO, W Algarve’s signature restaurant, which focuses on contemporary interpretations of Mediterranean and Portuguese cuisine.
Located in Albufeira, the luxury hotel has increasingly positioned itself as a destination for food and wine experiences alongside its hospitality offering.
Places for the dinner are limited and reservations are required. The experience is priced at €145 per person, including the tasting menu, wine pairings and sommelier-led presentation.
Organisers say the evening is aimed at both wine enthusiasts and diners looking to explore the connections between Portuguese wines and modern gastronomy in a more interactive setting.
