Jakarta (ANTARA) -
The Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court will deliver verdict on the highprofile corruption case against former education minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim who is accused of embezzling funds of multibillion rupiah on Chromebook procurement programme.
Chief Judge Purwanto Abdullah told the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday that the ruling, initially scheduled for June 25, was postponed due to the health reasons.
"After this, we will deliberate. The defendant is ordered to appear again on Tuesday, June 30," Abdullah said.
Nadiem Makarim, who served as minister of education, culture, research, and technology from 2019 to 2024, faces charges linked to the government’s digitalisation programme between 2019 and 2022.
Prosecutors have demanded an 18-year prison sentence, a fine of 1 billion rupiah (US$61,000) in lieu thereof 190 days in prison, and restitution of 5.67 trillion rupiah (US$348 million) in lieu thereof 9 years in prison.

Authorities alleged the scheme caused 2.18 trillion rupiah (US$134 million) in state losses, including US$44 million from unnecessary purchase of Chrome Device Management.
Makarim is accused of receiving 809.6 billion rupiah (US$49.7 million) through PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa, a company tied to Gojek Indonesia, which benefited from Google’s US$787 million investment.
Three other defendants—Ibrahim Arief, Mulyatsyah, and Sri Wahyuningsih—are being tried separately, while another suspect, Jurist Tan, remains at large.
The case has drawn wide attention as it involves one of Indonesia’s most prominent tech entrepreneurs, whose declared assets in 2022 included 5.59 trillion rupiah in securities.
If convicted, Makarim faces charges under Indonesia’s anti-corruption law carrying severe penalties, including long prison terms and asset seizures.
