Bengaluru’s Namma Metro services on the Purple Line were hit severely on Tuesday evening after a train developed a technical glitch, leaving several commuters stranded.
In what is considered to be one of the biggest disruptions in recent years, the train developed a technical glitch at 6.32 pm at the Cubbon Park metro station. Given it was peak hour, several commuters were stranded.
The operations and maintenance teams of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) reached the site and were seen trying to resolve the problems.
Commuters took to social media to explain what they experienced.
Alan Desousa, a commuter, posted on X: “There was a huge sound in the last coach just as it entered the CubbonPark tunnel. The rear motor drives aren’t working and HVAC turns off often as the train picks up speed. Occasional jerks as train cruises after acceleration.”
Another X user Akshay Mahajan posted a photo of commuters stranded in queues.

In another update, it said services had been resumed in elevated section on Whitefield (Kadugodi)-Indiranagar and Challaghatta-Nadaprabhu routes on either side.
“Efforts are underway to restore normal services at the earliest. Passengers are requested to cooperate and plan their journeys accordingly. BMRCL regrets the temporary inconvenience caused to the commuters.”
