Uber and its Maltese partner are reviewing their relationship, with changes expected to the way the ride-hailing giant operates locally.
Since launching in Malta in 2022, Uber has worked with Rides & Eats, a subsidiary of Alf Mizzi & Sons, which provides services including driver onboarding support and marketing.
According to a report by WhosWho.mt, Rides & Eats CEO Sebastian Ripard confirmed that “the scope of the services we offer Uber is set to change”.
However, Ripard stressed that the changes will not affect customers or drivers and that Uber will continue operating in Malta.
Alf Mizzi & Sons Group CEO Alec Mizzi also confirmed that discussions are underway, although specific details have not yet been revealed.
The development comes as ride-hailing services continue to grow rapidly in Malta. There are currently close to 5,000 registered Y-plate vehicles on the roads, with recent figures showing around 55,000 trips being made every day — amounting to more than 20 million rides annually.
Based on an average fare of €10 per trip, the sector could be generating more than €200 million in annual revenue.
