Jean Smart Pokes Fun at Her Broken Knee After Her Emmys 2025 Win
Robby Hoffman couldn’t hack it after her Emmys loss.
After the comedian lost the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series to fellow Hacks guest star Julianne Nicholson at the 2025 Creative Arts Emmys in September, Hoffman confessed that she was “the biggest sore loser.”
“As you know, it's all rigged,” Hoffman joked on the June 23 episode of The Bald and the Beautiful podcast. “I was there with my sister. I was the biggest sore loser. I lose immediately.”
Host Trixie Mattel recalled running into Hoffman before the award show, noting that the Hacks star seemed positive that she would win.
And Hoffman confirmed the feeling, saying that she and her sister were “acting like we got the Emmy.”
“We were like, ‘Oh my god, who’s even in the [category]? It’s not even close,’” the 36-year-old said. “And meanwhile the category is literally Olivia Colman, Zoë Kravitz—it's insane. We’re like, ‘It’s a shoo-in.’”
The comedy writer—who was nominated alongside Nicholson (Hacks), Colman (The Bear), Kravitz (The Studio), Jamie Lee Curtis (The Bear) and Cynthia Erivo (Poker Face)—said her sister decided that they needed to leave.
“She grabs me by the arm, ‘We're leaving this s--t.’ You can see us immediately leaving,” Hoffman said. “We lose, and we leave, and we are stewing."

But the two quickly ran into Mattel, with Hoffman remembering that the RuPaul’s Drag Race star “embraced the stew” and became a calming figure for them.
And what felt even worse for Hoffman was that after her loss she still needed to present the category for Outstanding Cinematography.
"They want you to hold an Emmy for somebody else that could've been yours. I'm giving somebody else an Emmy now. It's criminal,” she exclaimed. So instead, Hoffman did her own bit. "I get out there and I go, 'I lost, there's nothing to say, and it's criminal that they have me presenting contractually in such a state.' And it just for some reason brought the house down."
“I can’t deescalate, all I do is escalate,” she added. “And it just brought the house down.”

And Mattel, 36, was amazed that the comedian felt her emotions so deeply, noting she was “actually refreshed” by Hoffman’s reaction.
"You entered the room like your whole family was murdered,” the drag performer said. “You sat on the couch and you were kind of in shock, but you felt like you were in shock that you were actually upset about not winning. You'd said to me, 'I don't think I cared and now I lost and I'm mad.’”
Despite her loss, Hoffman—who’d previously won a Daytime Emmy in 2019 as a writer for the Odd Squad—was happy for her Hacks costar Nicholson.
"Julianne Nicholson, who beyond deserves it, won, and if not for me, her for Hacks. She was amazing," Hoffman said. “She was the best, too.”
