
Meta-owned social media platform Instagram experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users across the world unable to access their accounts.
According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, reports of problems began surging at about 10:10 p.m., with more than 8,100 users reporting issues as of the time of filing this report. Users attempting to log back into the platform were met with “5xx Server Error” messages, indicating server-side problems.
In the United States, complaints started rising at about 4:55 p.m. Eastern Time, with users reporting difficulties logging in and accessing the app.
The disruption prompted many users to take to X to confirm whether others were experiencing similar problems.
An X user, identified as #ftperse, wrote, “instagram down when i’m literally working on something important lol.”
Another user, #AishaAkram56, posted, “Instagram down lol. What’s happeninggggggg.”

Reacting to the recurring outages, #theefrzn wrote, “This is almost the third time within a month Instagram is down. I’m tired Meta.”
Similarly, #ShutupAyushiii posted, “Instagram being down every two weeks is basically a scheduled feature at this point.”
Meta had yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the outage as of the time of filing this report.
Recall that a week ago, Facebook and Instagram experienced a widespread outage, leaving millions of users across the world unable to access their accounts.
The disruption affected Facebook’s main website, mobile application and Messenger service, with many users reporting that they were automatically logged out of their accounts.
