Jack White's Wife Olivia Files for Divorce After 4 Years of Marriage

The little ghost of Jack White and Olivia Jean's time together is all that remains.

The Black Belles frontwoman (real name Olivia Jean Markel) filed for divorce from the White Stripes rocker after four years of marriage on June 3 in Nashville, according to court documents obtained by E! News.

Markel, 36, listed the couple's separation date as the day of her filing, writing in a complaint, "Wife would show that Husband is guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which makes further cohabitation unsafe and improper."

"Wife alleges that there are such irreconcilable differences between parties as whould entitle Wife to an absolute divorce," her filing continued, adding that she is "dependent on Husband's income for her support."

In Tennessee, listing "inappropriate marital conduct" is a standard, fault-based reasoning for divorce.

E! News has reached out to White and Markel's reps for comment but hasn't heard back.

Though they'd kept their romance out of the public eye, White, 50, proposed to Markel on April 8, 2022, during his hometown concert in Detroit.

"It’s been such a beautiful day," he said at the time, per The Oakland Press, "I figure why don’t we do this right now and get married."

While the pair exchanged rings onstage that same night, with White's Third Man Records co-founder Ben Swank serving as the officiant, Markel listed their wedding date as December 2022 in her divorce papers.

Prior to his romance with Markel, White was married to his White Stripes bandmate Meg White from 1996 to 2000. He dated Renée Zellweger for a year during the early aughts, before tying the knot with model Karen Elson in 2005.

White and Elson, 47, welcomed their daughter Scarlett in 2006 and son Henry in 2007, before ultimately splitting in 2011. Their divorce was finalized the following year.

"Every divorce has its challenging moments," Elson shared in a 2022 interview with Harper's Bazaar U.K. "We first tried to do the Goopy conscious-uncoupling thing. That all fell on its head, but now I can wholeheartedly say that my ex-husband is a dear friend and someone I love."

Describing their dynamic as "purely that of parents," continued Elson—who has since showcased her friendly co-parenting style with White, alluding to his relationship with Markel, "I’m happy that he has a partner in his life, and I have a person that I’m with. We know each other too well to ever let resentment be permanent."
