
MANILA, Philippines — Lava continues to spill out of Mayon Volcano in Albay for the 170th consecutive day on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to state seismologists, lava effusion with lava flow was again recorded early Wednesday from 2:20 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.
“Effusive eruption of Mayon Volcano continues for its 170th consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), locally known as “uson,” and rockfalls,” Phivolcs said in an advisory.

Based on its 24-hour monitoring, lava was seen flowing 3.8 kilometers down Basud gully, 3.2 kilometers on Bonga gully, and 1.8 kilometers on the slope of Mi-isi gully.
Moreover, nine volcanic earthquakes with four volcanic tremors lasting one to 30 minutes long were also logged within the past day.
Phivolcs said “Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano.”
Under this alert level, entry into the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone remains strictly prohibited. /das
