Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has signed a recognition agreement with the Muslim Religious Union in Poland (MRU), reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the global halal ecosystem.
BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan inked the pact with MRU Chairman Tomasz Mikiewicz in Jakarta on June 18, witnessed by Polish Ambassador Barbara Szymanowska, according to a statement cited on Wednesday.
Hasan described the newly fostered cooperation as a strategic step to expand international recognition of Indonesia’s halal certification mechanism.
The agreement, he added, provides a foundation for BPJPH and partners in Poland to enhance synergy in halal standards, exchange information, and strengthen cooperation on halal products between the two countries.
He stressed that halal has evolved into an inclusive concept transcending Islamic values, underscoring it as a universal standard for quality, health, hygiene, and sustainability accessible to all communities regardless of religion.
“In Europe, many parties view halal as a label for premium products or high-quality food. In the United States, halal is regarded as a symbol of health. In Korea, halal is closely associated with health and hygiene standards,” Hasan explained.
On that note, the BPJPH chief emphasized that halal is “for everyone" and is no longer viewed solely as a concept exclusive to Muslims.
Furthermore, he highlighted the halal industry’s evident evolution into a major driver of the global economy, noting that the sector accounts for around 27 percent of the gross domestic product of Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country.
He also expressed hope that the recognition agreement would facilitate joint efforts by BPJPH and MRU to develop halal product assurance systems, strengthen international confidence in Indonesian halal products, and boost halal trade and investment between Indonesia and European countries.
“This cooperation is also part of our agency’s efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global halal hub,” Hasan concluded.
