The Oyo State Government has imposed a curfew in 10 local government areas surrounding the Old Oyo National Park as part of efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities in the area.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the government said the curfew would run from 4:00 pm to 8:00 am daily, beginning Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The restriction will remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours.
The affected local government areas are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.
Oyelade said the measure was aimed at supporting ongoing security operations and restoring peace in communities around the national park.
He urged residents to comply with the directive as security agencies intensify efforts to protect lives and property.
The curfew follows recent incidents of mass abductions in the Oriire axis.
In May 2026, gunmen attacked schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities, abducting dozens of pupils and teachers and killing at least one teacher.
According to the state government, the victims were taken into the Old Oyo National Park, a vast forest reserve that has increasingly served as a hideout for armed groups.
Security agencies are currently conducting search-and-rescue operations in the area.
