MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has not yet received any arrest warrant for Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, according to Director Melvin Matibag on Wednesday.
Nevertheless, the NBI chief said his agency, as a law enforcement agency, will enforce the warrant as soon as it receives any arrest order.
“The job of the NBI, law enforcement, when an arrest warrant comes, we will enforce it no matter what,” Matibag said.

He then addressed posts he said he reads on social media, saying that he is “afraid” to arrest Marcoleta.
“I’ve read that. There are people who are making a challenge, saying that ‘Matibag was scared because he didn’t want to arrest Marcoleta.’ I hear that. But there is no arrest warrant,” he maintained.
“These people who are challenging me to arrest Marcoleta, you bring me a legal and valid warrant of arrest for anybody. And we will enforce it,” he told his critics.

“Let’s not talk nonsense on Facebook. If there is evidence, bring it to the NBI and we will do so as it is our job. The NBI wants law and order and we will enforce the law no matter what,” he added.
Marcoleta recently claimed that a warrant of arrest may be issued against him “one day.”

His expectation comes after the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon’s field investigation bureau recommended plunder and indirect bribery complaints against him over his allegedly undeclared P75 million campaign donations.
The senator denied wrongdoing, saying that the complaints against him is an attempt to “punish dissent.” /apl
