
MANILA, Philippines — A police corporal under the Manila Police District (MPD) was relieved from post because of alleged traffic violation as seen in a video now circulating on social media, the agency said on Wednesday.
“The video allegedly shows [the] police officer… carrying a young female back-rider without a helmet while proceeding through a red light,” the MPD noted in a statement without further providing details on the purported incident.

“In line with established procedures and to preserve the integrity of the investigation, the police officer has been relieved of duty, effective immediately,” it added.

The MPD identified only the relieved officer as a police corporal in the MPD Traffic Enforcement Unit.
“The MPD takes this matter seriously, as it involves compliance with traffic laws, adherence to safety regulations, and the accountability expected of all police personnel,” the agency said. /mr
