MANILA, Philippines — The newly appointed head of state-run People’s Television Network Inc. (PTV-4) is planning a revamp of the network toward digital expansion, wider regional presence, and better pay.
PTV-4 general manager and former Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano said he has issued orders guided by a mandate to “bring PTV and its services closer and more relevant to the lives of the Filipino people.”
The orders came after a two-week review of the network was conducted to establish the basis for reforms, Cayetano wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

This is expected to boost news operations and expand into educational, cultural, developmental content, and disaster preparedness, Cayetano said.
He added that this builds on the “talent and experience already within PTV, and gives our people greater value, support, and resources.”

Cayetano also ordered the creation of a task force to activate new digital channels to expand social media reach.

The task force will strengthen regional content and partnerships with national, local, and other non-governmental organizations, he said.
Cayetano also formed a committee tasked to review all positions and their plantilla, a move that will run alongside the endorsement of PTV-4’s reorganization plan, which he said has been pending for 15 years.

This reorganization is part of the network’s efforts to move PTV-4’s employees toward better pay, Cayetano added.
To future-proof the network, he said the network will also partner with the academe and the private sector to attract fresh talent.
“Together, these orders address content, reach, and institution — strengthening PTV’s direction, expanding its delivery, and building its capacity to serve you, the Filipino people, as a stronger, more sustainable, and more progressive national public broadcaster,” he wrote.

Earlier this month, the three largest TV networks in the country, namely ABS-CBN, GMA, and MediaQuest TV5, “have reached out” to help in further advancing the state-run television network’s mandate.
Cayetano said the PTNI Board has adopted a resolution authorizing him to enter into partnerships with the private media giants.
“To serve Filipinos better and remain engaged and relevant in their lives, we need multiple stakeholders at the table, working alongside the already outstanding and hardworking men and women of PTV,” he added.
