A young Cattle Egret (Agrett tal-Bhejjem) has been given a second chance at life after being found weak, dehydrated and struggling to survive in Burmarrad around two months ago.
The chick was taken into the care of BirdLife Malta, where it received the attention it desperately needed. With a suitable diet, careful monitoring and plenty of time to regain its strength, the young bird slowly began to recover.
What followed was a remarkable transformation.
Over the weeks, the chick regained its health, grew stronger and developed into a healthy young egret ready to return to its natural habitat.
Now, after months of dedicated care, the bird has been successfully released back into the wild.
The heartwarming rescue serves as another reminder of the vital work carried out by Malta’s wildlife rescuers, who regularly care for injured, exhausted and vulnerable birds before giving them the chance to fly free once again.
From weak and dehydrated to soaring free, not a bad comeback story for one determined little egret.
