Prabowo credits farmers, fishermen for 2024 election victory

President Prabowo Subianto said support from farmers and fishermen was one of the key factors behind his victory in Indonesia’s 2024 presidential election.

"I am convinced that HKTI (the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association) and KTNA (the Andalan Farmers and Fishermen Contact Group) were among the keys to my victory," Prabowo said while attending the 17th National KTNA Week in Gorontalo on Wednesday.

The President said he has maintained a long-standing relationship with farmers and fishermen through his involvement in various agricultural organizations over the years.

According to Prabowo, his political journey has been driven by a commitment to improving the welfare of people working in the agricultural and fisheries sectors. He noted that he remained active in politics despite experiencing several electoral defeats.

"I contested five elections. I lost four times and won the last one," he said.

Prabowo explained that his determination to continue competing in politics stemmed from his belief that farmers, fishermen, workers, and lower-income communities deserve greater attention in the country's development agenda.

He emphasized the strategic importance of the agricultural and fisheries sectors, describing them as the primary sources of food supply for the Indonesian people.

During the event, Prabowo also expressed appreciation to farmers and fishermen for their contributions to strengthening national food security.

According to him, Indonesia’s success in increasing food production would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of farmers and fishermen across the country.

Prabowo reaffirmed the government's commitment to further strengthening the agricultural and fisheries sectors as part of broader efforts to improve public welfare.
