
MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Francisco (international name: Mekkhala) further weakened on Wednesday afternoon as it continued to head away from the country, the state weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in its latest typhoon bulletin, Francisco was last spotted 320 kilometers (km) east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

It currently carries maximum sustained winds of 130 km per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 160 kph while moving northward.

“Francisco will continue moving northward within the next 12 hours before turning northeastward towards the Ryukyu Islands and the sea south of mainland Japan,” Pagasa said.
“On the track forecast, Francisco will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow (25 June) afternoon or evening,” it added.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 (or where winds of 39 to 61 kph and intermittent rains may be expected in at least 36 hours) remains raised in the following areas:
Batanes
Northeastern portion of Cagayan (Gonzaga, Santa Ana) including Babuyan Islands
