Steel group flags PH delay on seismic standards

MANILA, Philippines – A regional steel group said the Philippines is falling behind its neighbors in eliminating non-seismic steel due to delays in enforcing updated rebar standards. Ronald Magsajo, chair of the Southeast Asia Iron and Steel Institute, said several countries have already restricted or effectively banned reinforcing bars made through induction furnace (IF) technology for construction use.
