Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto decided that the official logo for Indonesia’s 81st anniversary celebration will be selected through a public vote, according to Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, Harsya said the Creative Economy Ministry, in collaboration with the Indonesian Graphic Design Association (ADGI), had curated 124 logo submissions and shortlisted five designs for a public vote through a dedicated website.
“The established practice was narrowing down the top five designs to three, which would then be chosen by the president. This time, however, he wants the public to choose among the final five,” Harsya told ANTARA at a press conference.
He welcomed the decision, noting it as a positive precedent for encouraging public participation in determining the visual identity of the Independence Day commemoration.
Deputy State Secretary Minister Juri Ardiantoro said on the same occasion that residents can vote for their preferred design on the dedicated website from June 24 to 28.
He noted that the shortlisted logos were designed by residents from Java and other regions, each raising a distinctive theme: “8 Hopes, 1 Goal,” “Collective, Synergy, Growing,” “Connected Humanity,” “Democracy and Self-Reliance,” and “Empowered, Equal, and Synergized.”
According to Ardiantoro, each design reflects creative interpretations of the grand theme of Indonesia’s 81st anniversary, namely “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.”
He added that the government had prepared rewards for 300 selected voters, including invitations to the annual Independence Day ceremony, souvenirs, and educational assistance.
ADGI representative David Irianto said the designs were submitted by both association members and independent designers.
“The selection process began with an open call for graphic designers across Indonesia,” he said.
He added that the submission stage was followed by a curation process, after which the top five finalists advanced to the pitching stage, presenting their concepts to representatives from the Ministry of Creative Economy, the State Secretariat Ministry, and the Government Communication Agency.
