The Nasarawa State Police Command has intercepted 174 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and arrested a suspected arms trafficker along the Toto–Abaji Road.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement in Lafia.
He said the arrest was part of the command’s sustained campaign against illegal arms trafficking and threats to public safety.
According to Nansel, operatives attached to Toto Division, while on routine patrol on June 22, 2026, intercepted one Abubakar Abdullahi and found the ammunition concealed in his possession.

He said a thorough search led to the recovery of 174 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect could not provide any satisfactory explanation regarding the source, ownership, or intended destination of the ammunition,” Nansel said.
The PPRO noted that the suspect is currently in police custody while intensive investigation is ongoing to uncover the criminal network behind the illegal movement and apprehend all accomplices.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating all forms of criminality, particularly the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition.
He warned criminals to renounce their activities or face the full weight of the law, adding that the command has intensified intelligence-led policing, surveillance operations, and strategic deployments across the state.
“There will be no safe haven for criminals in Nasarawa State. We are determined to identify, track, and bring every offender to justice,” the CP stated.
He assured residents of the command’s readiness to protect lives and property, urging the public to remain law-abiding and go about their legitimate activities without fear.
CP Mohammed called on citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely, credible, and actionable information to aid efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
“The Nasarawa State Police Command remains resolute in its policy of zero tolerance for crime and will continue to deploy all lawful means to ensure the security and well-being of all residents,” Nansel added.
