Newly appointed Speaker of the House Carmelo Abela has started updating the public on social media about what is happening in Parliament.
“I want to update you with what is happening in Parliament,” Abela said.
He explained that newly elected MPs are currently discussing and debating the speech delivered by President Myriam Spiteri Debono.
According to Abela, 34 MPs have spoken during the ongoing discussions, with members keeping to their allocated timeframes.
He also presided over the swearing-in of two MPs who were unable to attend the official swearing-in ceremony held over the weekend.
The updates mark a new approach from the Speaker, giving the public a direct look at what is taking place inside Parliament.
Do you agree that parliamentary affairs should be put on social media?
