EXCLUSIVE: Last fall, we broke the news that comedian Mary Beth Barone would bring her first hour-long comedy special, Galaxy Brain, to Netflix. And now, we can tell you that the special will premiere globally on Tuesday, July 28.
In the hour-long special, taped the Skirball in New York City in March, Barone aims to shock, amuse, and arouse. She covers a wide range of important topics from reproductive rights to guys with tattoos. And from some angles, she also has a thigh gap.
“I am incredibly proud,” Barone told us, “to speak for all women with this comedy special.”
Mary Beth Barone: Galaxy Brain is directed by Ky Newman. Coming on the heels of her 40-minute self-produced special Thought Provoking, the new special is exec produced by Alex Bach and Daniel Powell of Irony Point, and produced by Taylor Kowalski.
Known on the stand-up side for her self-aware, darkly post-modern material, Barone is also a writer and actor who worked in both of those capacities on Overcompensating, the college comedy series from Benito Skinner, Amazon MGM Studios and A24, which premiered on Prime Video last May and is heading into its second season.
Named as one of Deadline’s Stand-Ups To Keep An Eye On In 2026, Barone has headlined sold-out shows at the New York Comedy Festival, Netflix Is a Joke Fest, and the Edinburgh Fringe. She’s also co-host, alongside Skinner, of the popular podcast Ride, which returns with a new season July 15. She is represented by Entertainment 360, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
