TEHRAN, June 24. /TASS/. Iran intends to discuss the Gaza issue during the talks with the US, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during a telephone conversation with senior Hamas official Basem Naim.
"During the consultations with the US and mediators within the framework of the current round of talks, <…> Iranian negotiators will raise the issue of incessant aggression by [Israeli] occupational forces against Gaza, systematic violations [of agreements on a ceasefire and of enclave residents’ rights], as well as the ongoing genocide," the Tasnim news agency quoted the top Iranian diplomat as saying.
In mid-June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding, providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. On June 21, Tehran and Washington held talks in Switzerland’s Burgenstock, with Qatar and Pakistan acting as mediators, to discuss the implementation of the memorandum. On June 22, representatives of the Russian and Iranian Foreign Ministries discussed the memorandum's implementation prospects during consultations in Moscow. According to Russian diplomats, the participants of the consultations noted the necessity of ensuring a sustainable truce in Gaza and beginning work to restore the civilian infrastructure of the Palestinian enclave destroyed during the hostilities, among other topics.
