Ticket sales were suspended at

Floremce's Uffizi Gallery due to heat and malfunctioning air

conditioning systems on Wednesday, when the Tuscan capital was

among 16 Italian cities on red alert due to the danger posed by

the high temperatures of the heatwave that is baking Italy and

much of Western Europe.

Long lines formed outside the Gallery.

According to reports, the extremely high temperatures are

affecting the museum's air conditioning system, so—for Wednesday

only—it has been decided to limit entry and suspend ticket sales

for today.

Teams of technicians are working to restore the air conditioning

systems.
